Charisma
What made the Beatles so enthralling? Why were the Rolling Stones irresistible to young crowds? Harry Styles and Frank Sinatra alike had the same issues in their early days. The Beatles at one concert actually stopped singing because the screaming of the young crowd was so loud that the artists couldn’t hear themselves sing. Bob Dylan didn’t really comment on this same phenomenon, but he avoided the public as much as possible and frequently answered media questions with absurd answers.
The phenomenon isn’t limited to these few, by the way. Hordes followed many great leaders wherever they went. We could say it’s their charismatic personalities that draw people into their spell. But I think it’s more than that—notice who is following the bands. Also note the artists’ ages at their peak.
Youth
The Beatles started before they were in their twenties and achieved celebrity status by their twenties. Young women, mostly under twenty, inundated them. This is the age when women and men are often looking for someone to be with—a mate. We want the best mate possible, don’t we? A hot band member is more exciting than the guy you went to school with.
Sometimes, even older girls get excited. We remember what it was like to be young again. Take this excerpt from a story, for example –
I got to see my mother turn into a 12-year-old
“Just then, I noticed Chuck standing with his arms folded, talking to a thin man with a towel over his head. It was Bob Dylan. We had to walk directly past them to get on our bus. I didn't want to bother Chuck while he was talking with Bob, so I just walked right past them. I turned to see that my Brother and Father had passed the duo without reacting to who it was. At that very moment, my Mother started gasping. I don't even think she was saying any words. It was just the sheer excitement of walking up to Bob Dylan. I still remember Dylan's face as he looked at her in a stunned, frozen state. I approached them and tried to make it very clear that it was my Mom and that she was with me. It was so fun to see my own mother turn into a speechless fan at the sight of a rock star. I'd never seen that side of her before. She was completely gob-smacked. Dylan seems to have that effect on people.” Facebook Story

Struggles
There’s an allure around showbiz and rock music: the glitter and stardust. Fame gets in our eyes and alters our vision like funky contacts. We want to be around fame. We forget there’s work and failures that the famous face. To make it, you need to be tenacious, not only charming.
Bob Dylan had his own struggles. We can only guess at the cause, but he began avoiding the spotlight as if hiding in hoodies or small cafes would keep the hounds of fame at bay.
In his early days in New York City (circa 1961), Bob Dylan often escaped the growing pressure and crowds by seeking refuge in the private, supportive environment of friends' apartments, specifically finding a "shelter from the storm" with Mac and Eve McKenzie and their son Pete.
I could talk about the love songs and the good looks, but you know all about those. That was the initial attraction, wasn’t it?
Does the love fade? Or mature? Let me know your thoughts. Disagree or agree?
