What is Beauty?

Seeing ourselves after healing

I’ve always loved using the analogy of a pair of glasses to describe my personal insights. Just like a good pair of specs can help us see the world more clearly, gaining deeper understanding is crucial for our self-awareness. There have been times in my life when I felt blind to my own worth, often measuring it through the lens of superficial beauty. It’s astonishing how misguided we can be! A memorable moment came when my adult son gently reminded me of the true value of meaningful human connections. His words struck a chord with me, highlighting how much richer our lives become through authentic conversations. It’s a lesson I’ll carry with me!

Having a mom who listened and cared impacted his life. My sons have told me of other lessons they’ve learned from me, and as a mother, I am grateful for their candor and thankful to have them in my corner supporting me.

As a teenager, I remember wishing and praying for straight teeth and a beautiful face. I remember practicing my walk so I could be graceful. Even my yoga practice at that age was for my vanity. Now I realize how insecure I must have been to have monitored my actions constantly.

Beautiful Music

When my children were born, I turned to music to soothe them to sleep. Even this morning, my cats chilled when I played the album Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. I learned early that vibes from music improved our lives.

You have to believe we are magic
Nothin' can stand in our way
You have to believe we are magic
Don't let your aim ever stray - Songwriters: John Farrar. Sang by Olivia Newton John

Know your worth.

Your waistband or your bust measurement doesn’t measure your value. It’s easy to forget what counts when you’re blasted by advertisements showing how you can be better than others if only you purchased these items. Buy one, get one free. Get it today, pay later. Don’t wait, stock is limited. Taste the difference. Hungry for more?

You get the point. The images invade your personal space. Here’s the thing, they’re using the power of persuasion, sorta like a magical spell. That taco makes your mouth water, and it’s not real.

Do we need to quit watching advertising? Probably not. Use it to motivate yourself. Understand how to identify your cravings, desires, or dreams. We can listen to our voices to know what’s best for us. Where is your beauty? Find it. Own it.

Namaste.
