This week, I wrapped up another visit to the doctor, and it was all the regular questions—my ongoing struggles with anxiety and those pesky sleep issues. Unfortunately, when I brought up my concerns about waking up multiple times throughout the night, he shrugged it off. Apparently, as we age, we start to revert to a baby-like sleep pattern, complete with those short cycles of light sleep. Who knew adulthood would come with such a twist on our bedtime routine?
This was one of three appointments that I have scheduled this month all with different doctors for my various health conditions. My next appointment is my dentist.
Navigating the world of health care can be incredibly complex. While I certainly wouldn’t want someone without the right knowledge operating on me, I can’t shake the feeling that my care often feels disjointed. I embark on this journey because I truly want to be healthy and nurture every aspect of myself—mind, body, and soul. It’s interesting to realize that no single doctor can master it all.
What is Health
Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. It’s about how your body and mind function individually and together, as well as how you interact with your environment.
Good health encompasses:
- Physical health: Maintaining bodily systems and functions—like strength, energy, and immunity—through balanced nutrition, regular exercise, sleep, and medical care.
- Mental health: Psychological resilience, emotional balance, and the ability to cope with stress or challenges.
- Social health: Building supportive relationships and maintaining a sense of connection and belonging in your community.
Health can also be influenced by external factors such as genetics, lifestyle choices, environment, and access to healthcare. How do you view health in your life? And is your healthcare healthy?
Be well today!
